I’m Rachel and I joined the Tomorrow Project in November 2019. I work as a Bereavement Clinical Support Worker providing emotional and practical support to those bereaved by suicide across Leicestershire.
I am a qualified Counsellor and prior to joining the Tomorrow Project worked for a local cancer charity and volunteered for a national bereavement charity. In the past I also had a 15-year career in Commercial Banking too.
I am bereaved by suicide and understand all too well the devastation caused and the intensification of emotions following loss. “Grief with the volume turned up” as it has been described but I also believe that over time there is also space for hope. This is one of the reasons that I wanted to support others bereaved by suicide and carry a passion for the work that I do.
Outside of work my time is mainly taken up with family stuff but I also enjoy reading, walking, music and watching crime documentaries, and can often be found expressing my disbelief that 1990 was actually over 30 years ago. Football is also big in our household with divided loyalties – I am a Derby County fan (which is a challenge in itself) and my children support Leicester City. Having been born in Leicester and seen their local team win the Premier League and FA Cup it was always going to be difficult to persuade them to follow my team!
