Why an Online Conference?

By Ash Botes (E-Learning Operations Manager / Instructional Designer)

Harmless is thrilled about our line-up of speakers at this September’s online Suicide Bereavement Conference. This is not the first conference Harmless has hosted online, but some people have asked why we decided to go virtual again this year. Allow me to explain the many benefits of this approach.

Firstly, a virtual conference is more accessible and inclusive. Hosting online enables anyone to join us from anywhere in the country and, indeed, from anywhere around the world. Last year we had delegates logging-on from all parts of the UK and even from as far afield as Australia. Eliminating travel costs (and even visa issues!) allows us to reach as many people as possible. This also ensures that more delegates with different backgrounds and experiences can join, which always leads to a richer and more rewarding event.

Secondly, a virtual conference is often more flexible and convenient. You can choose which sessions you want to attend live and watch back later any you might have missed via our E-Learning portal. Delegates are also able to interact with guest speakers and other attendees through the Q&A sessions that take place after each workshop. You can even network with potential partners and collaborators by attending the drop-in sessions after the conference.

Finally, a virtual conference is more sustainable and eco-friendly. Harmless is committed to sustainability in everything it does, including reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to the fight against climate change.

We hope you are as excited as we are for the amazing line-up of speakers and workshops we have planned.
