Harmless, the national centre of excellence for self harm and suicide prevention, is seeking dedicated individuals to join its Ethics Committee. This committee plays a vital role in ensuring that all research conducted by Harmless adheres to the highest ethical standards, safeguards the well-being and rights of research participants, and promotes rigorous and impactful research. We are encouraging applications from individuals from a variety of different backgrounds including – but not limited to – service-users / clients, clinicians, mental health professionals, academics and community representatives.
Initially, we are seeking expressions of interest from those with expertise and experience in the following areas:
- Research Ethics: A strong understanding of ethical principles and guidelines for research involving human participants, particularly in the context of mental health and suicide prevention.
- Mental Health and Suicide Prevention: Knowledge of the complexities and sensitivities surrounding mental health and suicide, including an understanding of the potential risks and benefits of research in this field.
- Lived Experience: Individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges or suicide, who can bring a unique and valuable perspective to the ethical review process.
- Clinical Practice: Clinicians or mental health professionals with experience in working with individuals at risk of suicide or self harm, who can provide insights into the clinical implications of research.
- Academic Research: Researchers with expertise in mental health or suicide prevention, who can offer guidance on research methodology and design.
- Community Engagement: Individuals with strong ties to the local community and an understanding of the cultural and social context of mental health and suicide prevention.
- Legal and Regulatory: Expertise in relevant laws and regulations related to research ethics and data protection.
- Bioethics: Specialised knowledge in bioethics and ethical decision-making in healthcare and research.
