Harmless and The Tomorrow Project in 2024: Our Year in Numbers

Throughout 2024, Harmless and The Tomorrow Project has continued to offer unwavering and comprehensive support to those who do or are at risk of self harm, those in suicide crisis, and those bereaved by suicide. We have also empowered individuals, organisations and communities to make a difference in the lives of those struggling with these challenging issues.

Our impacts are impossible to quantify through numbers alone, but statistics do help give some context to the effects of our work over the course of a year:

  • During 2024, Harmless and The Tomorrow Project connected with over 2,300 individuals facing some of life’s most difficult challenges – meaning we were part of over 2,300 journeys towards hope and recovery.
  • Our suicide crisis pathway supported 294 individuals and delivered 917 one-to-one sessions to those in crisis. 47% of those supported were male, which exceeds the national average for men accessing mental health services.
  • We provided support, comfort and guidance to 259 individuals navigating the complexities of bereavement by suicide.
  • Our self harm pathway has been a beacon of hope to more than 2,000 people we have supported.
  • Our Out of Hours service has seen a 39% increase in referrals over the last six months alone, demonstrating the growing need for our specialist support.
  • We continue to see the devastating impact of financial hardship across all of our pathways, but particularly our crisis service where money difficulties are cited by 44% of clients referred into the service.
  • We have further developed our practical support interventions in areas such as housing, debt and benefits to alleviate the burdens that can contribute to a suicide crisis.
  • During the last twelve months our Academy training team has delivered two national conferences and 259 training sessions (totalling over 1,000 hours) to almost 4,000 delegates. Our research shows that the skills imparted through these will have a potential wider impact on over 41,000 people in distress.

Of course, these numbers are only part of the story. Each one represents someone we have walked alongside through their journey. Some of these journeys are not yet finished and we will continue to be part of those as we move into the new year and beyond.

We want to take this opportunity to thank all our friends and stakeholders for their steadfast support over the last twelve months and wish you all the very best for 2025.
