Ash Ruan Botes
eLearning service manager & instructional designer.
Hi, I’m Ash and I’m the eLearning Service Manger at Harmless. I’m originally from Cape Town South Africa and I am bilingual, meaning I speak both English and Afrikaans.
In Cape Town, people call me by my middle name Ruan and here at home people call me Ash. I enjoy traveling and the occasional surf session when close to a beach. It has to be said having family living in both South Africa and America has meant my family and I have been able to travel a fair bit in those countries. I am a Dad to two girls and love spending time with my family, so when I say surfing happens occasionally, I meant very occasionally.
My experience in eLearning stem from running my assessment center where my instructional design interest grew and where my course and platform design work started. My exposure to this field continued while working as an eLearning consultant for two charities in the UK for several years as well as my time as an eLearning intern in the development department of a large corporate firm, designing and re-designing their online course content, using tools such as Articulate 360 and animation software such as Vyond.
This occupational experience has equipped me with the skills in my current role with Harmless where I am designing, creating, and developing an eLearning portfolio that reflects our standard of excellence, expert knowledge, and our position as an organisation nationally.
