The Academy at Harmless and the Health Education England Framework

By Caroline Harroe (Harmless CEO)

The Health Education England (HEE) Framework for training and education around self harm and suicide is a set of standards that define the minimum level of training and education that healthcare professionals should receive in order to effectively support people who are self harming or at risk of suicide.

The HEE framework covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • The prevalence, risk factors, and causes of self harm and suicide
  • The impact of self harm and suicide on individuals, families, and communities
  • How to assess the risk of self harm and suicide
  • How to intervene with people who are self harming or at risk of suicide
  • How to provide support to people who are bereaved by suicide

To perform against the HEE framework, training providers must ensure that their training courses cover all of the topics listed above. They must also ensure that their trainers are qualified and experienced in delivering training on self harm and suicide.

Harmless’ training department – The Academy at Harmless – performs against all HEE framework standards. In addition, the Academy’s courses are delivered by experienced trainers who have expert understanding of self harm and suicide, as well as the impact it can have on people.

The Academy also outperforms other training providers in a number of ways. For example, its training courses are:

  • More comprehensive: Academy training courses cover a wider range of topics than most other training courses on self harm and suicide. This includes topics such as how to work with people from different backgrounds and how to develop suicide bereavement support pathways.

  • More up-to-date: Academy training courses are based on the latest research and evidence-based practice. This ensures that healthcare professionals who attend our training courses are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to provide the best possible support to people who are self harming or at risk of suicide.

  • More engaging: Academy training courses are designed to be engaging and interactive. This helps to ensure that healthcare professionals who attend our courses are able to learn and retain the information they need.

The Academy at Harmless is committed to providing high-quality training with courses designed to help healthcare professionals develop the knowledge and skills they need to provide the best possible support to people who are self harming or at risk of suicide.
