Hello everyone!
My name is Charlotte and I recently joined Harmless in 2021 as a Clinical Administration Officer and am here on a 12-month internship as part of my undergraduate Psychology degree at Nottingham Trent University. This blog post is a little snippet of my time here at Harmless and an insight into what it’s like being a placement student.
My role as a Clinical Administration Officer, a position within the organisations Quality & Relations Team, involves supporting the clinical pathways and assisting service managers, therapists and clinical support workers to provide high quality support and a smooth client journey through our service. My typical working week can vary a lot and keeps me busy by involving a variety of different tasks from processing referrals to organising fundraising events. My placement has also allowed me to get involved with training as a clinical support worker where I work within Harmless’ Out of Hours support service. Receiving regular supervision and attending bespoke training, this role has allowed me to put into practice theories and frameworks that I have learnt from my degree and see a real-life application of my psychological knowledge.
Like anyone experiencing anything new, I was apprehensive going into my placement and had many expectations! These were all eased soon after starting, and being surrounded by such a supportive and welcoming team, I have been able to achieve so many things throughout my year here, most noticeably receiving employee of the quarter, an accomplishment I am particularly proud of!
Whilst the year has been undeniably challenging at times, being in an environment that has allowed me to grow and develop has given me the structure and resilience to find a fulfilling career path within this sector. Undertaking my placement year at Harmless has provided me with a holistic workplace experience and helped to improve my skills and confidence – I have really enjoyed my time here so far and cannot wait to see where it leads!
