We are very proud to confirm that Harmless has been shortlisted in the Excellence in Resilience, Change and Adaptability category at the Great British Workplace Wellbeing Awards 2025. This recognition is particularly meaningful for us as a small organisation operating in the challenging and often under-resourced third sector. It highlights our commitment to not only supporting the wellbeing of our staff, but also fostering a workplace culture that thrives in the face of adversity.
At Harmless we understand that working in suicide prevention can be emotionally and psychologically demanding. Our team members are exposed daily to the trauma and distress of others, which can take a toll on their own mental health and wellbeing. Despite the inherent challenges and limited resources often associated with the third sector, we have made significant strides in creating a workplace environment that prioritises resilience, embraces change and fosters adaptability.
Our commitment to staff wellbeing is evident in our progressive initiatives:
- Prioritising Mental Health
We provide access to confidential therapy sessions, recognising that everyone, regardless of their role, needs support to maintain their mental wellbeing. - Encouraging Reflection and Growth
Regular supervision and reflective practice are embedded in our work culture, providing a safe space for staff to process their experiences and develop coping mechanisms. - Embracing Work-Life Harmony
Our standard 4-day working week and flexible working arrangements demonstrate our commitment to a healthy integration of work and personal life. - Providing Immediate Support
Defusion processes are in place for any staff member who experiences a traumatic encounter, ensuring immediate access to support and resources.
Furthermore, we are currently undertaking an in-depth study of workplace welfare within our suicide-facing workforce. This research project demonstrates our commitment to understanding the specific stressors our staff encounter and developing targeted interventions to further enhance their wellbeing and resilience.
Operating within the constraints of the third sector has demanded creativity and resourcefulness in our approaches. We have learned to leverage our strengths, build strong partnerships and utilise innovative solutions to ensure our staff feel supported, valued and empowered.
This shortlisting for the Excellence in Resilience, Change and Adaptability Award is a testament to our efforts and the unwavering dedication of our team. It recognizes our ability to not only survive but thrive in a challenging environment, and it inspires us to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in within the third sector.
We are excited to be recognised alongside other organisations who are leading the way in workplace wellbeing. This award shines a spotlight on the importance of prioritising employee wellbeing, particularly in demanding fields like suicide prevention, and it demonstrates that even with limited resources, a strong commitment to team welfare can create a resilient and adaptable workplace culture.
