Danny (Clinical Team)

I love working at Harmless. It feels good to be somewhere that sees the value in genuine human connection and care. We make a real effort to get to know the people we work with well – we prize their individuality and pay close attention to their troubles. We are guided by empathy and compassion. We also challenge stigma wherever we find it, acting as an antidote to unwarranted shame and self-censorship. Here, people are welcome to express who they truly are without fear of judgement.

I have been working at Harmless now for just over a year and want to share my journey as a specialist trainer. At university I was keen to gain voluntary experience working for a third sector organisation and applied for an internship at Harmless to gain further insight on self harm, suicide and mental health working in a professional setting. I was immediately inspired by the determination and passion displayed by all the team for these subjects. Although I had a lot to learn, I always felt supported and listened to.

After completing my placement and returning to my studies, I remained in contact with Harmless and they provided me with numerous opportunities for continued professional development. Attending their training inspired me to become a trainer myself and equipped me with the skills and confidence to respond to a difficult life event I was soon to face myself. Not always knowing what to do, I knew I could turn to Harmless for advice and often reached out to the team who were always there to provide support.

When I started at Harmless, I constantly doubted my ability to deliver training to large groups of delegates. However, with the support, encouragement and compassion of the team I have now delivered over 80 sessions. I am proud of my achievements at Harmless. Working in the right environment with supportive colleagues has enabled me to achieve more than I could have imagined.

I started work at Harmless in 2020, having voluntarily left my previous position at a mental health hospital because I felt undervalued in my role. When I began my new job with Harmless’ suicide crisis team, I was greeted with the most incredible welcome I could have wished for.

Throughout my time at here, I have felt supported, encouraged and valued in everything I do. Through Harmless’ commitment to continuing professional progression, I have been encouraged to develop both vocationally and as a person. Having started as a clinical support worker, I now manage the suicide crisis team. Harmless does a wonderful job at keeping teams connected and morale high in an occupation that can often be challenging, yet is always rewarding. I feel very fortunate to be a part of a motivated, selfless and enthusiastic staff who are all so incredible at what they do.

I am proud of my achievements at Harmless. Working in the right environment with supportive colleagues has enabled me to achieve more than I could have imagined.
